After the great success of the first COMMODORE Workshop, the second workshop will be organised as the Hamburg COMMODORE Conference during January 28-31, 2020.

Description

The COMMODORE workshop is about numerical solution techniques of the partial differential equations that govern ocean circulation from global to coastal scales. The objectives of the workshop are the following:

  • share experience on model development, including
    • numerical methods
    • equation sets
    • HPC
    • coupling between equations and sub-grid scale parametrisations
  • share common test-cases to evaluate numerical models and emphasize merits and flaws
  • share perspectives on future model evolutions on all aspects of dynamical core formulation
    • inclusion of non-hydrostatic effects
    • use of structured/unstructured grids
    • oceanic LES
    • improving the representation of some specific processes
  • establish a more systematic bridge between methods used and developed by the applied maths community and the ones used in realistic oceanic models.

IMPORTANT: there are no registration fees for the workshop, but registration is compulsory for obvious organisational issues. Registration includes coffee breaks for the three days, two lunches and the conference dinner (on Tuesday night) at no cost.

There is no special hotel for participants. Many reasonably priced hotels are located within walking distance from Inria Reasearch Center, among them

there are several metro lines (1, 6, 8, 14) around allowing an easy reach for hotels located a little bit further.
